February is the month of love, and with Valentine’s Day just passed, we know there are a lot of happy couples out there enjoying each other’s company. But as V-Day drives home every year, not all of us have found that special someone – it can be difficult to tell if the person you’re interested in reciprocates your feelings.
That’s where Dr Louise Mahler comes in. As an expert in body language and communication, Dr Mahler helps us understand what to look for in other people – or even ourselves – to determine if love is on the horizon. Let’s take a look at her tips.
The best way to detect if someone may be interested in you is through their smile. New 2022 research from SmileDirectClub found that a nice wide smile is the top feature that attracts them most to a person, so be sure to smile yourself and look out for a grin. The research also found that Aussies believe that people who smile at them are welcoming (62%), warm (31%), and confident (29%). As an added bonus, when we smile it also reflects in our eyes, so a warm smile is not wasted in this era of mask wearing.
When we are interested in someone, we tend to mirror their gestures. Things to look for would be something along the lines of reaching to the left, as a person who is in sync with you will also move their hand. Think of it as a dance. You cross your legs they cross theirs. It’s called rapport, and once in sync, you will find yourselves together as one.
We love to enhance our appearance and groom in front of someone we are interested in. A man may tug at their pants, while women will play with their hair or brush it from their face, stroke their arm or fiddle seductively with an object.
These are all signs of interest and by being aware of these, they may help ensure that you do not miss an opportunity in your search for love.
