If you’ve felt a little slow off the mark with working towards your New Year’s resolutions, February is your opportunity for a fresh start and forward motion.
Last month, with Mercury and Venus in retrograde, we were encouraged to take on a slower and more reflective pace. For many of us, January wasn’t quite the kickstart to the year that we were hoping for, but on February 1, the new moon peaks at 4:46pm (AEST) in the sign of Aquarius, offering a very welcomed injection of energy. This lunation is sandwiched between Venus and Mercury moving direct, which means it’s enhanced with extra potency to push our plans into gear.
Aquarius is The Water Bearer, but this is not to be confused with our Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) and their association with deep feeling and emotions. Aquarius is very much a cerebral Air sign and the water it bears refers to a cup half-full of the mental waves of higher and collective consciousness.
Uranus is in square aspect to this lunation, which influences the potential for progressive change. It demands personal freedom and wants us to open up to the spontaneity of life – get used to the idea that anything can happen! So, if you can free yourself up to flow with the waves of higher consciousness that permeate the current energy, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you discover.
For example, ideas that have been brewing under the surface might suddenly come to the forefront and offer a new perspective, or you might receive an unexpected invitation or job offer. But the message here is not to sit back and wait for things to happen. This is about having awareness so that when opportunities arise, we can seize the moment by following through with deliberate action.
Aquarius is the joint mind. It comes together to create a sense of community and thrives in this dynamic, so it’s a good time to reconnect with your social group or to get involved in a team project. Aquarius sees the value of ‘power in numbers’.
But within the context of ‘the group’, this moon also urges us to embrace ourselves on the level of our originality. The mantra for Aquarius is ‘I Reform’, and its objective is to change and evolve for a better future. Its strategy is to go against the grain and embrace its uniqueness. Can you dare to be different?
The energy at play is driving us to show up in the most authentic version of ourselves. What does that look like for you? Ask yourself, 'When and where do I feel most myself?’ ‘What do I need to feel safe in bringing out my truth?’ ‘Does the fear of judgement hold me back from achieving my goals?’
Aquarius does not want to be like everyone else – its gift is in the ability to navigate life from outside the box. Are you dimming down your light just to conform to the societal norm? These are some of the questions to reflect on during this time. This lunar phase offers full permission to be yourself and to rebel against the non-serving belief systems that may be holding you back. To be loud and proud and unashamedly you is the ultimate illustration of how this Aquarian energy can be played out.
The new moon marks the beginning of the lunar cycle and always brings with it the energy to plant seeds and set our intentions for the month ahead. Combine that with the theme of Aquarius and you’ve got a breeding ground that is rich with potential. What would you create if you could be open to the possibility that your manifestations can become a reality? If we can get out of the way of ourselves and tap into a flow where opportunity meets action, then we can become unstoppable.
