Each year, Mother’s Day greets us seemingly out of nowhere (or, at least, that’s how the Casper Magazine team feels!), and we’re forced to realise that we’ve left our gift-buying to the last minute. Again.
The holiday to celebrate your mother figures or caregivers falls this Sunday, May 7, and we know what it’s like to scramble for a last-minute present – but we also know how dissatisfying it is to give or receive the classic bouquet of flowers. So, we’ve compiled a list of great last-minute gifts for this Mother’s Day that are sure to be a hit!
We all know giving someone a gift card is a little bit of a cop-out, but giving them a subscription is a great way to show you know what they like while also giving them some flexibility. If your mum is always scrolling through TV guides or movie rentals, why not give her a Netflix subscription so she can watch whatever she wants? Whether it’s Netflix, Stan, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Binge, or any of the other TV and movie services, there’s sure to be something she’d like.
In fact, there are subscription services for just about anything, not just movies! If you want ethical beauty products, visit Nourished Life, or get a book and tea sample delivered as often as you’d like with The NovelTea Book Club. Is your mum an avid gardener? Easy Come Easy Grow will send her three different herb or vegetable seeds each month to grow at home! Maybe she’s a fan of puzzles, riddles, and mysteries – Escape the Crate might be for her! And because these are subscription boxes, they’re the gifts that just keep giving.
Aesop is well-known for their high-quality soaps, washes, and perfumes, making their products an easy go-to for a lovely gift. It’s general enough to suit most people, but you can personalise it through fragrance – maybe your mum prefers bright, citrus-scented products, or maybe earthy or smoky aromas are her favourites.
This year, Aesop has a special Nurturer gift pack geared towards ‘mothers and caregivers alike’, which includes a hand balm, a body cleanser, and a lip salve with a mix of fragrances. There are also themed packs with evocative names, like the Lore Collector, the Seasoned Wayfarer, and the Metaphysical Voyager, each providing a different sensory experience and wellness benefit.
If your mum is the kind of person who likes jigsaw puzzles, this gift might be the perfect choice. This 1000-piece puzzle features the likenesses of inspiring women from all time periods: Joan of Arc, Malala Yousafzai, Junko Tabei, and Katherine Johnson are just some of the women appearing in a gallery-style format.
Not only is the puzzle a beautiful (dare I say, frameable?) picture, but it also encourages the puzzler to find out more about these incredible women – or serves as a conversation starter for others! The inspirational exhibit of heroic women is a great gift for the puzzle-loving mum.
Stay Tuned’s founder, Dr Paul Hermann, is a regular guest on Casper Podcast, so we know they offer incredible services, from osteopathy and podiatry to – you guessed it – massage and myotherapy. Stay Tuned is running a Mother’s Day special so you can spoil your mum with a Myotherapy or Massage Gift Card and a Karma Collective candle for just $130. Visit their Boronia or Elwood reception, or give them a call to set one aside for you!
Finally, we recommend this incredibly beautiful book for Mother’s Day (or any gift opportunity!). Named after a feminist essay by Virginia Woolf, A Room of Her Own explores the lives, abodes, and relationships of women in beautifully entwined stories. The book is an absolutely gorgeous hardback with full colour, high quality photos alongside evocative text, making it perfect for any design enthusiast (or just someone looking for a stunning coffee table book!).
We’re also giving away a copy of A Room of Her Own, with the lucky winner announced on Monday May 10 at 3pm. Just subscribe to Casper Magazine and follow our Instagram @caspermagazine to enter the draw!
