This year’s London Fashion Week is coming to a close and once again, the Casper team looks beyond general fashion to focus on those designers with ethical and sustainable practices in place. With that in mind, Vivienne Westwood, Rejina PYO, and Rixo have been the ones that stand out in the realm of sustainability.
As one of the most prominent British powerhouses, Vivienne Westwood is walking the walk with sustainability. Vivienne’s collection is now custom-made, with an incredible 98% of its materials being low-impact and cruelty-free. For the first time, there are no virgin synthetic fabrics involved in the creative process, and the wools used for this collection now come from 'regenerative agriculture’ farms. The goal with all this is to keep the carbon footprint as close to zero as possible.
Rejina Pyo is really making a name for herself, and there are few reasons why we love her aesthetics. For this spring/summer collection, the designer is taking swimwear to a whole new level, with Great Britain’s Olympic Team divers Emily Martin, Josie Zilling, and Robyn Birch making a stellar appearance at the London Aquatic Centre to support Rejina’s most sustainable collection yet. Two especially noteworthy pieces are Rejina’s two-toned orange and pink swimwear, made from Italian recycled nylon, and jeans crafted in organic denim.
For founders Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey, sustainability is a priority. As conscious advocates, they have been creating solid and transparent relationships with their suppliers, making sure that every one of them is providing locally sourced materials to reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible. As a relatively new brand, they are aware that there are so many different elements on the market asking for their attention; still, they want to keep things simple from an innovative and efficient mindset until they get everything on the table figured out.
With London being one of the most eclectic cities of the big 4, London’s street style is an absolute gem, not to mention a dream for photographers. I love getting inspired by the English capital ahead of new seasons; if you’re like me, keep scrolling to discover my street style picks for this Spring/Summer edition. After more than a year of seeing trends digitally, we are ready for the IRL comeback, and both British designers and attendees seem to agree.
