Louis Vuitton has announced that they are thrilled to bring visionary artist and global icon Pharrell Williams on board as Men's Creative Director, with his first collection for the Maison set to debut this June at Paris Fashion Week. With two decades of boundary-breaking creativity across music, fashion, and art, Williams embodies all that makes LV a cultural powerhouse known for its pioneering spirit and innovation.
I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men's Creative Director. His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.
Here's a little Pharrell background:
To date, Pharrell Williams has over ten billion combined global music streams as a recording artist, producer, songwriter, philanthropist, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. His accomplishments include 13 Grammy Awards, including 2004 Producer of the Year, 2014 Producer of the Year, and ASCAP's Golden Note Award in 2012. He has received two Academy Award nominations for his original song "Happy" (Despicable Me 2) and for Best Picture-nominated Hidden Figures (2016) as co-producer.
Williams also received a Golden Globe Nomination for co-scoring the film. For Netflix's Black Godfather about legendary music executive Clarence Avant, Williams received an Emmy nomination for his original song "Letter to My Godfather." In 2020, Williams was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for his work as The Neptunes.
Along with co-producing Brainchild (2018) with his producer, Mimi Valdes, Pharrell narrated Universal's remake of The Grinch, authored the book A Fish Doesn't Know It's Wet, and narrated Universal's remake of The Grinch. Other projects include Dope (2015), Roxanne Roxanne (2017), Voices of Fire (2020) and Amazon's Harlem, which has been picked up for a second season and Lena Waithe's Rollin' for HBO Max.
In 2019, Pharrell founded YELLOW, a non-profit that aims to help youth achieve their potential through education. In 2020, Williams launched Black Ambition, a non-profit initiative providing a bridge to success for Black and Latinx entrepreneurs launching tech, healthcare, Web 3.0 and consumer products/services start-ups. His long-term advocacy for racial justice led to discussions with Virginia Governor Northam about Juneteenth becoming a permanent paid state holiday.
The incredible creative kept the theme of empowerment alive by launching SOMETHING IN THE WATER in April 2019, a multi-day music festival and experience on the beach in Williams' hometown of Virginia Beach aimed at bringing together pop and hip-hop artists to celebrate diversity and empowerment.
As an industry-renowned artist and innovator, it is no surprise that Pharrell Williams has strategically extended his impact to the fashion world, from Human Made – a streetwear brand co-created with Kenzo's Creative Director Nigo – to G Star Raw Denim, Billionaire Boys Club, and Ice Cream apparel brands.
He's also collaborated with classic brands Tiffany, Moncler, and adidas originals, continuing to co-create alongside some of today’s most renowned names to ensure we are always being served up something new, yet classic, and totally Pharrell!
As part of his entrepreneurial portfolio, Williams recently opened Swan and Bar Bevy alongside David Grutman, followed by The Goodtime Hotel, setting forth another impressive venture for him within luxury hospitality.
Are there any limits to the abilities of a creative genius?
