Definitely a Casper Magazine favourite, for his upcoming Autumn/Winter 2020 Holiday ad campaign (directed by Jacobs himself), he’s tapped none other than Australian pop icon, Kylie Minogue, to be the star of the show.
In a style direction best described as “the 60s, but make it 2020”, photographer and filmmaker Sharna Osborne captures Minogue in her signature lo-fi style. The campaign features a playful Minogue sporting a selection of cute and cosy Marc Jacobs ensembles: printed dresses and co-ord sets paired with quintessential Marc Jacobs bags, including totes, clutches, and shoulder bags.
2020 has certainly been a busy year for Marc Jacobs, seeing the brand run a number of successful collaborative endeavours this year with brands such as Peanuts, Cactus Plant Flea Market, and Dr Martens. Jacobs’ recent ‘polysexual’ Heaven collection has also been a big highlight for the fashion house this year, with the collection drawing upon ‘the origins of the Marc Jacobs impulse’ as well as ‘D.I.Y. spirit.’
The brand’s most recent endeavours (particularly the Heaven campaign) all tap into audience nostalgia, resulting in some really strong visual parallels. Will this be a new permanent creative direction for Jacobs? We’ll have to wait and see, but in the meantime, the holiday ad campaign also coincides with the release of Minogue’s brand-new album, DISCO – the perfect soundtrack for Jacobs’ new nostalgic trend.
