If you’ve ever moved houses, whether interstate or locally, you probably know that the whole experience can be one of the most stressful things on earth. There’s no small chance of encountering sleepless nights and nervous breakdowns with so many things to keep track of. But what if we tell you that the process can be done without the stress of it all?
A bit more than a month ago, I started planning my move; even though I was moving to a place close to where I was living, I knew I needed some help with the process if I didn’t want to spend time and effort unnecessarily. Here’s where Muval came in with the save.
Muval is a unique service that allows customers to view pricing upfront from a range of pre-qualified and hand-picked removalists to help take the stress out of finding an available removalist near you. They let you organise packing, removalists, connections for energy, gas, and internet, and more – all through the one platform.
The pre-move process couldn’t be more straightforward. You just go to their website and choose if you are moving an entire home, a few rooms, a couple of items, or even your office. Once you have this sorted out, one of their specialists will contact you with a few personalised quotes so you can decide the one that fits your needs and budget best. The Muval team will put you in contact with the removalists that will be doing the job, so you can relax and let the experts take care of everything. At the same time, you can get on with your life without sacrificing your free time!
If you want to save some money from the moving process, I recommend you pack most things yourself to cut down the hours. I honestly went with the complete service of packing and moving, which allowed me to keep working while the teams of removalists packed everything for me. They know precisely what they’re doing and take extreme care with fragile items, so if you are a bit clumsy like me, this is highly recommended! The team was pretty efficient, considering the number of items to pack!
If packing everything yourself will be a hassle that’ll have you worrying for a few days – think about how confident you are that you can pack things securely, and whether you’ll have time to do it all before the move! – it might be better to avoid the stress and arrange the packing with your removalists. However, if you have plenty of time and it doesn’t bother you to have to pack every single item (from every room in your house – how much stuff do you own, again?), then by all means, go for it and save some dollars. In any case, Muval is a pretty affordable service with rates around $150 per hour for removalists, plus extra for packing/unpacking/moving box costs, but it's always good to be mindful of your budget.
The next thing to figure out before moving day is to check the surroundings, parking options, and access to the house/apartment. If you’re not on the ground floor, do you have a lift to use, or will the team need to take the stairs? Checking all these things before the move will give you a better perspective on the unloading process and save you from paying extras if your furniture won’t make it to the new place. This is something that did happen to me with the TV unit I had in my previous home, which didn’t make it to the new one due to the structure of the stairs. We had to pay an extra fee so the removalists could dispose of it properly, so it aways pays to check beforehand.
My friend and I moved from a three-bedroom apartment in Bondi to a two-bedroom apartment in Bondi Beach, and the moving day went extremely smoothly, with the removalists arriving at 8:45am. We took them on a house tour so they knew what they would have to pack and what they wouldn’t need to worry about. The packing process took them around four hours and included two bedrooms (clothing and decoration), a kitchen (kitchenware, appliances, and food), and a living room (decoration).
After the packing was done, they loaded 30 boxes and the rest of the furniture into the truck, which took them around two hours. While the truck was being loaded, my friend and I went to the new place to be there before the removalists. At this point, the only thing left was to unload everything from the truck at the new location, which took them another two hours, give or take.
They first unloaded the big items, like the dining table, couches, and beds, and went on with the boxes afterwards. Once a few boxes were in the apartment, my friend and I started unpacking them – you can do this yourself, or they can do it for you, too, but we decided to do it ourselves as we wanted to place everything as we had in mind. After everything was unloaded, they left the boxes with us and told us to let them know once we were done so someone could come and pick them up.
As you can see, the whole process took around eight hours, including packing, loading, and unloading. The result was a highly recommendable experience, particularly for those time-poor of us – not only because the day after we moved, we were already settled in, but also because it was a no-fuss process that was precisely what we were looking for. So, if you need any help with your next move and don’t want to worry about a thing, make sure to check them out at www.muval.com.au!
