Rumer Takes Us on a Journey to the Outback - AAFW 2022
A year after her debut, designer Nikita Sernack showcases her latest collection.

Designer Nikita Sernack returned to the runway today to unveil the brand's latest collection, 'Journey', inspired by Australia's outback. Sernack first launched RUMER at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) last year. The new runway design at Carriageworks in Sydney evokes a trip down a red dirt road, a nod to Australia's rich and vast landscape.

Following its first collection in 2021, the fashion label captured the attention of both global and local retailers, resulting in wide spread success. The brand is committed to Australian production and sustainability, designing and manufacturing 100% of their pieces in Australia with a focus on timeless, stylish, and cherished pieces.

“Since the launch at AAFW last year, we’ve had incredible momentum with many major international stockists adding RUMER to their brand mix. Seeing our designs in marquee retailers like Intermix, Revolve, Shopbop, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom, and locally in Coco & Lola has been a milestone moment for me and the team. We are so proud of the brand and to have it so well received is a dream,” said Sernack.

In her new 'Journey' collection, Sernack took inspiration from the Australian country where she spent most of her childhood.

“I drew my mind back to the raw beauty of my grandparent’s working farm and fell in love again with the nuances and character of the gloriously expansive Aussie outback and its vast red dirt roads to create this collection. I’m a nature lover and found inspiration in the extraordinary Australian flora and fauna which is reflected through Australian native floral prints and earthy, grounded tones throughout the range,” said Sernack.

Earthy tones and utilitarian styles translate the beauty and magic of the iconic Australian landscape, enabling the wearer to move through their day with ease and alluring sophistication. Natural fibres take centre-stage and are accentuated with applique and broderie anglaise, reminiscent of colonial times.

Sernack also founded and has grown cult evening brand, Nookie, with stockists in Australia and internationally, including Bloomingdales and Revolve. She founded RUMER in 2021, as a brand that reflects her vision of earthy and wholesome femininity.

The show itself was stunning, and my guess is the audience was more in need of the Aussie Cubra than the models wearing them. Elegant tailoring, plunging necklines, and subtle prints; yellows and blues contrasting with seductive earthy reds and blacks; and long hemlines with thigh-high spits – this collection is HOT!
