Two of the most iconic Italian brands collaborated to create the range: Smeg and Dolce & Gabbana. The rare collaboration between a luxury fashion house and a manufacturer has produced an exciting marriage of art and functionality, and you can see the display of these gorgeous fridges now at Winning Appliances!
This luxury appliance was introduced to international acclaim at the Milan Design Fair in April 2016 and combines Smeg's functionality and performance with the dazzling colours and vivid imagery of Sicily for which the designers are known.
Every fridge is adorned with a design that is the result of quality work by one individual Sicilian artist, who has been specially commissioned for the project. In style from the Sicily of old, these hand-painted tableaus are adorned with vibrant patterns and floral motifs; a labour-intensive production process that has been challenged by a growing number of buyers!
Sicilian artists featured in the show include Gianfranco Fiore, Ommaso Provenzano, and Michelangelo Lacagnina. The latter captured scenes from Sicilian life for his two fridge designs: a fisherman with his catch against the backdrop of Mount Etna and a farmer picking fruit in a verdant field of lemons and sunflowers.
Now you can see one of these beautiful appliances up close. The first D&G refrigerator in Australia, painted by Sicilian brothers Antonio and Giuseppe Bevilacqua, is on display at Winnings' brand new Kingston store in the ACT.
A colourful burst of yellow and red inspired by the Sicilian sun and the lava of Mt Etna, the artwork depicts the battle between Argante and Tancredi, as well as the battle between Anthea of Babylon and Tancredi.
A limited-edition run of just 100 will be released, and with no two refrigerators exactly alike, but each embodying the passion for design and style of both brands, these are certain to be prized collector's items for many years to come.
In addition to the much-anticipated Smeg Divina Cucina collection of major appliances, which first debuted at EuroCucina in 2018, the products are now available in Australia.
Divina Cucina, which incorporates Smeg's FAB28 fridge, free-standing cooker, and rangehood, extends the original Sicily is my Love collection, which is once again infused with Dolce & Gabbana's signature flair. Again, you can see the renowned fiery red and orange tones of the appliances as well as the Italian spirit expressed through the intricate details of the citrus fruits, red cherries, and yellow lemons.
We are honoured to once again collaborate with Dolce & Gabbana to curate a passionate collection with a true Italian icon and globally renowned design powerhouse. We share a love for our Italian roots and together champion bold, iconic designs set to frame a truly show stopping kitchen aesthetic.
But if you’re like me and you’re not in the market for major appliances, but still want a piece of the collection, Dolce & Gabbana have also created a smaller appliance range: Sicily is my Love is a truly Italian project, and as usual Dolce & Gabbana always brings an unmistakable aesthetic to the small appliances collection.
You can purchase them at your favourite retailer in the list below.
If you are in Melbourne, you’ll be able to view the magnificent Smeg and Dolce & Gabanna fridge collection at Winnings’ Chadstone showroom. If you're closer to the ACT Winnings, they have the fridges on display there, too.
