The Best Spring Makeup Trends of 2021

From glowing skin to bold looks, here's our guide to this spring's makeup trends.

Warmer days have arrived here in Australia and with them, the desire for a (hopefully impending) freedom out of lockdown. With that in mind, spring this year looks more colourful and fun than ever before. In the makeup world, spring is always a synonym for joy and vibrancy, and for the remainder of 2021, we expect to see the quintessential sense of happiness reflected in most makeup looks.

We’re talking fresh and dewy skin and, of course, the ‘no-makeup’ natural look isn’t going anywhere. But spring brings a more daring atmosphere, with bold brows that can change a facial expression in the blink of an eye. A vibrant pop of blush refreshes even the most stressed-out face, and lips – don't forget our beloved lippies; this season's trend is to make a statement, and what bolder statement is there than a red lippy?

Fresh Skin

If those of us working from home these past eighteen months have learned anything, it’s how to rock a makeup-no-makeup look for the team video meetings. Let’s just say we’re not quite yet ready for a full face of makeup yet, and just like us, makeup artists around the globe don't seem to want this look to make a comeback, as we've seen on the latest catwalks. So, that glow you’ve cautiously been working towards with your skincare routine? Get ready to take it out and about this spring. Lightweight formulas and glowy finishes will be your go-to – are you as excited as we are for days of fresh skin?

Here are some great skincare options this season: Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint and Bareminerals’ Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream.

Bold Brows

Are you a makeup devotee like us? Then you’ll be familiar with one of the biggest trends in the makeup scene for the past few seasons: bold brows. We’ve come a long way from the over-plucked days, when almost non-existent brows where the cool thing – until celebs like Cara Delevingne, Lily Collins, and Kaia Gerber made a brow statement by having bushy and bold brows. Have you ever noticed how the shape of your brows can dramatically change the expression of your face? It might not be easy to find the best shape for every complexion, but once you get it right, we recommend you keep up the work.

Our favourite brow products right now? The Benefit Powmade brow pomade and Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz.

Vibrant Blush

Can you picture a makeup look on a spring day without any blush at all? No, we can’t either. As we said, this season is all about colour and joy, so what could be better than a pop of bright blush to be the best mood booster?

During previous seasons, we’ve been seeing creamy blushes making their way into A-Lister makeup bags. You might like this texture or not, but we’re sure you can’t deny the fact that a multitasker product is always worth the hassle.

For a bold blush, check out the ere perez Carrot Colour Pot or Fenty Beauty’s Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush.

Statement Lips

Lipstick is one of the most forgotten makeup products over the year, and the reason? The constant use of face masks. But with a potential freeing on the horizon, it’s time to take your lippies back for good. Matte and longwear formulas are the way to the top, so play around and have fun with pink, red, coral colours, and more – as we said, the bolder the better!

The lip products we’re loving right now are Morphe’s Make it Big Lip Plumper and KVD’s Epic Kiss Nourishing Vegan Butter Lipstick.
