The Bralette Guide: Styling This Season’s Hottest Staple

The Bralette Guide: Styling This Season’s Hottest Staple
With summer on its way, the bralette is making a comeback.

If anything tells us summer is coming, it’s neon pink shirts and exposed abs. And at Melbourne Fashion Week earlier this month, former Miss Universe Australia Maria Thattil turned heads by rocking both – effortlessly.

Pairing a barely-there but oh-so-chic fuchsia bralette with a midnight black suit set, it was hard to take your eyes off Thattil. Sure, her genes help (she is a beauty queen, after all), but there was something in the styling that was hard to look away from.

It got us thinking – should we also be turning to the bralette as a bona fide, wear-to-brunch-with-the-girls top? It’s as comfy as anything and slides on like a dream. Yes, it’s a little on the… risqué side, but it’s all about how you wear it, right? And where, too, of course. The bralette-as-top ensemble probably won’t fly at your next all-company meeting or lunch with your grandparents. But a third date? Saturday night dinner? Sunday session? Lean in, we say.

Plus, thanks to those pesky lockdown years, you probably have a stack of bralettes hanging out in your top drawer that don’t get much of a run anymore. It was the bra of choice for most while working from home, and now it can be your top of choice, too.

Here are just some of the many ways to style yours this season.

Under a cropped cardi

Cardigans have had a major style refresh (think dreamy pastels and a cropped fit) and have been spotted on everyone from Kendall Jenner to Bella Hadid. The movement has been growing for a while now, so you may already have a couple hanging in your wardrobe. And with the weather (finally!) starting to heat up, you can slip a bralette under one, leave the buttons undone, and hit the pavement. Hello, gorgeous!

Dial up the style factor with a thin gold necklace and soft up-do.

With a maxi skirt

This look is a little more daring than most, but it's also got an easy-breezy edge that screams summer vacay vibes – except we think you'll be able to pull it off on an ordinary weekend in November (when the sun is turned way up, of course)!

Find a matching set you love, like this heavenly number, by Aje or go bold and mix different fabrics and patterns. A lace bralette with a leather skirt is sure to cause a stir in the best way.

Under a sheer blouse

Not quite ready to bare all? We hear you! You can opt for a more subtle look by allowing your bralette to peek through a sheer blouse, like the Palmera Blouse from Kivari, which looks amazing tucked into blue jeans and a nude slide.
