It’s all in the details – take a closer look!

Finishing Touch Flawless Ambassador, leading makeup artist, and skincare educator Jackson Roberts shared with us the latest makeup trends everyone will be using this season, straight from the NY and European runways. If you’re a fan of Euphoria, you might think the designers have been influenced by the series aesthetic, right? Shimmering, bold colours abound…

These are the makeup trends we’ll be playing with for the upcoming months. Are you in?

Smudged, smoky, and vampy eyes at Michael Kors

The smudged, smoky eye never goes out of fashion, but the skin that matches the look does. Right now, fresh, glowing skin is in, which is why this smoky eye and bold lip combo works so well – a flawless base allows the bold features to pop even more!

A flawless base is sometimes hard to nail. To achieve this look, skincare is your best friend. Using a cleansing device such as Finishing Touch Flawless Cleanse will help you take your cleansing to the next level with its massaging and tapping modes that remove debris from the day. Pair it with a gentle cleanser such as the Caudalie Vinoclean Instant Foaming Cleanser. The result is a deeper cleanse resulting in clearer skin over time, which will make any type of makeup application better.

Smoky eyes can be dangerous and sometimes not very forgiving, especially for makeup beginners. I would suggest using two eyeshadow colours: one light to medium in depth (matte) and one with a sheen. Firstly, you should blend the matte tone through the crease, before pressing the shimmer tone across the entire lid to finish. The key to this is to blend, blend, blend. Use an eyeshadow blending brush like the Crown Brush C511 Pro Blending Fluff, and even when you think you’re done blending, keep blending! The end result should look soft and diffused, just like the looks from the Michael Kors runway.

My favourite eyeshadow palette to create a smudged, smoky eye is the Natasha Denona Glam Palette – it’s pigmented but blends beautifully. This is very easy to achieve once you have mastered the application.

It’s also important to have micellar water on hand to clean up your mistakes or any fallout underneath the eye. I would recommend the Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water.

Glimmer of shimmer at Dior

The Christian Dior AW 22/23 show was all about “less is more” and letting the couture look speak for itself. Dior created a beautifully natural, yet effective makeup look that suits all. Bushy brows, clean skin, and a pop of white shimmer highlighter in the inner corner of the eye: this is the perfect approach if you don’t want to overpower another part of your look.

Again, we’re seeing beauty looks veer more towards a clean, glowing look. There’s nothing too exaggerated on the base by way of blush, contour, bronzer, and highlighter. The focus is clean, fresh skin with just enough base enhancers for that “your skin but better” look. Instead of focusing solely on makeup, look to find the right skincare routine for you. Once you find this balance, spot concealing may be the only thing you need to do!

A concealer such as Makeup Forever Ultra HD Concealer gives a really nice finish and coverage on the skin; otherwise, a lightweight, natural foundation like the NUDESTIX Tinted Cover Foundation is another gorgeous alternative. A great way to keep the skin looking defined is using a rolling tool to help with blood flow. This will allow the skin to reduce inflammation and redness. I like to use Finishing Touch Flawless Ice Roller as part of my skincare routine. Simply pop the roller head in the freezer and you can then use it to roll it over the face and body – it gives a nice, cooling massage that helps de-puff.

Bushy brows have remained on top of the trends for a few years now. Push back against the brows with your favourite brow gel, wait until it slightly sets, then brush them with a spoolie to the way you want them to look. This will give the brows more of a bushy finish and be more long-lasting.

A pop of white can make the eyes appear more awake. It also creates space between your eyes, making them look bigger. This is a great technique to either have a natural finish or bring in a pop of colour. Finish the eye off with your mascara to achieve a clean, fresh, and low-key makeup that suits any occasion.

Bright and bold colours seen at Saint Laurent, Bluemarine & Poster Girl

It’s no secret that colour is making a comeback (credit goes to the creative makeup artistry on Euphoria). This is the perfect accessory to finish off your favourite outfit.

Colours can be difficult to get right, but I would suggest starting with more neutral, but still colourful tones, which will depend on your skin colour. I find most warm shades suit nearly everyone. It’s easy to start experimenting with oranges and yellows. These are much easier to blend into the skin.

Cool tones are more difficult to master. Blues and purples in particular can often resemble a bruise. My suggestion is trialling very bright colours. These aren’t usually found in the skin so will look more planned. To blend out your bright colours, use a colourless/translucent powder like the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. This will allow for a seamless blend without adding more colour. Some of my favourite colourful eyeshadows are from Morphe and Beauty Bay.

Natural, dewy, and sculpted at Dolce & Gabbana

This monochromatic and soft look from Dolce & Gabbana is a vibe! The easiest way to create a look that has a flow and not really a specific focal point is by using the same product over the entire face. For example, using your bronzer across the cheeks, eyes, and lips, then switching it up with a champagne highlighter across the eyes. Adding a gloss on the lips creates depth but still keeps the look monochromatic, clean, and very chic.

This look is always kept very natural, so you want to keep the skin fresh and smooth – I would suggest dermaplaning. This is a technique that will remove dead skin and peach fuzz to give you a beautiful glow. You can get these benefits from the Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glow. Because dermaplaning exfoliates your skin, you’re left with a smooth, glassy face that provides the perfect base for your makeup. Try adding the Beauty Elixir from Caudalie to your skincare routine to help you achieve that illuminated skin! I would suggest not using foundation at all as spot concealing will be all you need. You’ll be surprised how far a bit of concealer can go!
