The Scoop on Vegan Protein Powder
The Casper team put some of the top vegan protein powders to the test. Here are our honest thoughts.

Have you ever found yourself standing in the health food aisle, mouth agape, looking blankly at all the protein powder options in front of you? The struggle is real, right? Between whey, casein, egg, and vegan (not to mention the ones with extra boosters like calcium and vitamin D), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by so much choice.

Here’s the thing – not all protein powders are created equal, and some are definitely more nutrient-dense (and tastier!) than others. But if you’re about to start a new chapter in your health and wellness journey, it can be hard to know which one is the right one for you.

To help, we’ve done a bit of a deep dive into some of the best-selling plant-based protein powders on the market. Why plant-based? Because vegan protein powders have been proven to improve digestion, support cardiovascular health, and speed up the metabolism. Plus, they can be gentler on sensitive stomachs than animal-based protein powders like whey, casein, or egg, which means they’re a great choice even for non-vegan folks.

So, if you’re looking for a new protein powder to re-fuel post workout, power up your morning smoothies, or even sprinkle through your next batch of chocolate chip cookies, we’ve got you covered.

Welleco Nourishing Protein

In case you missed it, Welleco was founded by Elle Macpherson back in 2014. Welleco produces a collection of wellness solutions to help consumers feel capable, confident, and alive – including (you guessed it!) a plant-based protein powder that promises to enhance energy levels, reduce bloating, and balance your blood sugar levels.

The Welleco Nourishing Protein is fortified with the nine essential amino acids needed for post-workout recovery, so it’s good one to try after a dynamic Pilates class. But the best bit is that this brand tastes delicious! Even when it’s hastily mixed with tap water.

Our Beauty and Fashion editor Belen said: "The taste was an absolute treat, but it also helped me with my constant bloating and gut issues. It’s very easy to use – not just in smoothies either. If you are into baking, you’ll love to add a few scoops to your favourite pancakes or muffin recipes for the ultimate pick-me-up feeling.”

The Welleco Nourishing Protein comes in chocolate and vanilla flavour (chocolate gets our vote), costs $36 for a 300g packet, and is easy to order via their website.

Amazonia RawFIT Protein Perform & Recover

Amazonia is a market leader when it comes to organic plant-based sports nutrition and wellness products. Made to boost performance and accelerate results, their RawFIT vegan range is a favourite amongst gym-goers and the health-conscious. This premium, plant-based formula aids muscle development and recovery to keep you performing at your best – whether that’s at F45, hot yoga, or just during a casual stroll around the block.

Made from organic sprouted and fermented golden pea protein and brown rice protein, it boasts 30g of protein per serve – so it gets a big tick in our books. Naturally flavoured with stevia and monk fruit extract, it also tastes great mixed with your favourite non-dairy milk and comes in chocolate and vanilla varieties. We were big fans of the vanilla – creamy, dreamy, and just a little bit moreish.

You can buy the RawFIT plant-based protein powder from their website or at most health food stores.

This nutrient-rich pea protein powder is formulated as a digestive-friendly blend, making it the perfect powder for those of us with sensitive tummies! My Vegan Clear Vegan Protein

The My Vegan Clear Vegan Protein is a refreshing alternative to some of the other brands out there. Made with real fruit, it’s the clear (pardon the pun) choice if creamy protein shakes aren’t really your jam. Each serving contains 10g of hydrolysed plant-based protein to support and grow muscle mass. It’s also infused with vitamin B12 to maintain a healthy immune system and vitamin B6, which keeps your brain alert throughout the day.

You don’t need to do anything fancy with the My Vegan Clear Vegan Protein, either – simply add to a tall glass of water, stir well, and watch as it turns into a colourful drink that you can sip on throughout the day.

We enjoyed the lemon and lime, but there are three other flavours to try: pineapple and grapefruit, apple and elderflower, and strawberry and blackcurrant.

You can order the My Vegan Clear Vegan Protein from their website.

The Nue Co. Plant Protein + Prebiotic

This plant-based protein supplement had us at the packaging. Like most Nue Co. products, it comes in an easy-on-the-eye, infinitely recyclable and transparent glass jar that you won’t want to hide in your medicine cabinet.

It’s made from a nutritious blend of organic hemp, brown rice, and pea protein as well as a 20 million-spore probiotic for an added dose of wellness. Nue Co.'s Plant Protein + Prebiotic formula should go to the top of your list if you’re looking for a vegan protein powder that will support your gut health, improve your energy levels, and kick your immune system up a few gears.

A little on the pricier side at $49.50 for 200g, it delivers 15g of protein for every scoop – which is equivalent to two eggs. Win!

We tried it combined with a warming bowl of porridge and coconut yoghurt and it was simply scrumptious. Order it now via their website.

VEGAN85

Last but not least is VEGAN85, a tri-blend of brown rice, pea, and pumpkin protein offering a whopping 24g of protein per serve. It’s gentle on the tummy and mixes well will plant-based milks, yoghurts, and water without tasting powdery or clumpy.

It comes in a wide range of flavours – rich chocolate, French vanilla, mocha, raw coconut, salted caramel, and natural – so there’s something to suit every palette. We gave the raw coconut a whirl and were pleasantly surprised by the texture and taste. Try it blended with coconut milk – it’s a bit like a coconut colada but with a healthy (and alcohol free) twist!

VEGAN85 is also super affordable at $68 for 1kg. You can pick some up from their website.

So, there you have it – our recommendations for vegan protein powders if you’re plant-based, flexitarian, or just searching for something new to try after your next HIIT class.
