Zaha Hadid Architects' Tower C: Shenzhen's New Sustainable Business Hub

Dual towers on tiered garden platforms will provide a striking addition to the Shenzhen skyline, with Zaha Hadid Architects securing the highly sought-after Tower C contract.

Oriented around the city’s position as a major commercial intersection, Tower C will be a part of the business and finance hub of Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base, set to accommodate up to 300,000 employees each day. From office and conference spaces to retail, dining, and entertainment facilities, the 400-metre-tall Tower C will become a vital complex for business and leisure alike.

Zaha Hadid Architects has always been a major player in the industry, upholding their Pritzker Prize-winning namesake’s legacy with every design. Tower C is another in a long line of innovative architectural projects that dominate the cityscape: with the two towers adjoined by an organically shaped bridge, the twisted N-shaped building is a striking structure, even without considering its immense height. The form of the tower complex enables daylight to penetrate the entire building, while the open, tiered base minimises obstruction for those on the ground. Designed using 3D modelling tools, the unique shape and immense size of the complex will be well-suited to the high traffic that its central position and the integration of a transport interchange will invite.

With greenery integrated into the very base of the structure, Tower C holds sustainability as a priority, with a double-insulated glass curtain wall encasing the structure. The glass maintains the internal temperature, acts as self-shading, and enables ventilation throughout the towers, reducing energy usage and improving the quality of the interior environment. The tower will also be connected to the district’s smart management systems, which monitor external and interior conditions. This allows the indoor environmental controls to adjust in real time, reducing energy consumption with high-efficiency equipment and quick responses. With water collection, recycling, solar energy harvesting, and air-purifying aquaponics gardens, Tower C is set to make a positive environmental impact on the Shenzhen skyline.

Zaha Hadid Architects’ Tower C will be a significant addition to Shenzhen, integrating a major business sector with an entertainment hub that’s friendly to both the public and the environment. With sustainable practices being implemented throughout the dual towers, the complex will be a jewel within the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base.
