When stylist and model Valeria Bibersova crossed paths with photographer Natalia Boccalon on a Melbourne street, neither knew it would spark a creative friendship that would culminate in an artistic collaboration published in the pages of Vogue Australia. That spontaneous encounter — styled around a luxury sock brand and captured in a candid moment — marked the beginning of a visual dialogue that continues to evolve, blending technical precision with a playful, boundary-pushing spirit.
Their latest shoot, submitted to Casper Magazine, captures this energy beautifully. Set against a pure, geometric backdrop and showcasing Balenciaga’s lesser-seen tailoring and elegant eveningwear, the series plays with bold contrasts, sculptural silhouettes, and a deep appreciation for the concealed artistry of design. "We wanted to have bold pieces that contrast with the architecture," they explain. "Balenciaga has a reputation for streetwear now, but it's the simple-at-first-sight, complex-in-construction pieces that we admire most."
Natalia's approach to photography leans heavily into preparation — mood boards, lighting references, posing inspirations — but always leaves room for an organic, intuitive flow. "Creativity thrives within structure," she says. "I believe beauty is effortless, feminine, and timeless — whatever that means in the moment."
Valeria, meanwhile, brings a multi-dimensional eye to each shoot, shaped by her experience behind the camera as a photo editor and producer. Balancing the dual role of model and stylist, she found herself switching between "making sure the dress sat just right" and "striking the pose" — a challenge she embraced with characteristic ease. "Knowing how the dresses worked made it a very playful experience," she says. "Natalia’s vision and direction made the modelling part flow naturally."
Fashion, for both women, is far more than surface: it's a reflection of inner worlds. "Fashion is how we present ourselves to the world," Natalia explains. "It can influence mood, confidence, and creativity. It's not about superficiality; it's about connection." Valeria shares a similar sentiment, noting how their personal styles have evolved since moving to Melbourne — a city they both find liberating and refreshingly non-judgmental.
At the heart of their work is an invitation to embrace boldness. "We all have moments of insecurity," they reflect, "but sometimes putting on a favourite outfit, creating with a friend, and having fun is its own form of empowerment."
Looking ahead, the duo have no shortage of ideas. Valeria recently styled an editorial for To Be Magazine Issue 8 and dreams of a surrealist shoot starring someone as intriguing as Tilda Swinton, "swimming in clouds with a flying sea of giraffes." In the meantime, a still life project combining fashion objects and everyday items is on the horizon — just one of the many creative explorations they have planned.
In a fashion landscape that often favours spectacle over soul, Natalia Boccalon and Valeria Bibersova remind us that true style lives in the playful, the personal, and the perfectly unguarded moments.
