In the heart of Melbourne, excitement is brewing as the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival gears up for its 2024 return to the Royal Exhibition Building. This year, the festival extends from 24 February to 9 March, offering an even more engaging and diverse exploration of fashion.
The first week of the festival (24 February – 3 March) shines a spotlight on the unique fashion scene of Melbourne and Victoria.
By extending the schedule, the festival allows for a deeper appreciation of its independent program, highlighting the depth, diversity, and energy of contemporary Victorian fashion.
The festival's 2024 creative campaign is a bold, aspirational tribute to Victorian style. It invites audiences to “Find Your Fashion,” promoting an exploration of style and self. The campaign features a mix of emerging and established Victorian talent, including designers, models, stylists, and creatives.
Renowned fashion photographer Jordan Drysdale and stylist Joseph Leone lead a team of local creatives to bring this dynamic campaign to life. Drysdale's work has been recognized globally, featuring in prestigious publications like Vogue Australia and i-D. Leone's journey from a festival volunteer to a noted stylist exemplifies the festival's spirit of inclusivity and opportunity.
Backing the festival's creative pulse, Visit Victoria continues its support, reinforcing Melbourne's status as the fashion and events capital of Australia. Steve Dimopoulos MP, Minister for Tourism, Sports and Major Events, highlights the festival's role in uniting fashion enthusiasts and promoting Melbourne's creative and tourism industries.
In a unique intersection of fashion and technology, PayPal returns as the naming partner for the festival. Andrew Toon of PayPal Australia comments on the synergy between fashion and digital innovation: “Fashion is a leading interest among our nine million Australian customers, and we support more than 100,000 Australian fashion designers and retailers to sell securely online."
Now in its 28th year, the festival is set to bring back its iconic Premium Runway Series and Fashion Forecourt to the Royal Exhibition Building, showcasing a broad array of runway shows. Lynley Crosswell of Museums Victoria reflects on the building's role in narrating Victoria’s evolving fashion story.
The festival continues its commitment to nurturing future fashion talents with initiatives like the National Designer Award and the National Graduate Showcase.
